Nord-Pas de Calais (France)
The widespread image of Nord-Pas de Calais as an industrial region that struggles with difficult sectors such as steal, coals and textile is being surpassed since a long time. The proces of reconversion that took off more then 30 years ago, has converted Nord-Pas de Calais into a dynamic growth region that can face the future with confidence.
Characterizing and hopeful is for instance the significant growth of the number of business creations during the last years. In the field of innovation mayor steps were taken. The regional government approved a development plan in November 2005 werein innovation, basic research and the valorisation from it were recognised at an absolute priority. Complementary to this regional innovation politic the region tries to set up synergies on a European level f.i. the commitment of the region in the European “Innovation Factory” project.
