Scotland (United Kingdom)

There are five million people living in Scotland. It’s part of the United Kingdom, along with England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but it has its own parliament and its own way of doing things. There are six fantastic cities – Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Stirling – as well as many other large town and villages, all linked by air, road, rail and ferry.

Scots are world-famous for their banking, insurance and finance sector. Edinburgh is now Europe’s sixth largest equity management centre and the Royal Bank of Scotland is one of the world’s most profitable companies. The city of Aberdeen is unchallenged as the offshore oil capital of Europe and the international oil industry looks to Scotland for technical innovation and skills.

Seven of the top ten computer manufacturers have a presence here and Scotland continues to lead the world in medical research, life sciences, advanced engineering and renewable energy, while tourism and the creative industries are also flourishing. Business and investment are attracted to Scotland because of the country’s highly skilled and flexible workforce, established infrastructure and the fantastic quality of life.
