On the 20th of November the Nigth of the City Poets will take place in the framework of the Creativity World Forum. Antwerp, the city that hosts the Forum, was the first town, in 2004, with a poet to represent the city. The 4 city poets are Tom Lanoye, Ramsey Nasr, Bart Moeyaers and Joke van Leeuwen. These 4 writers will recite city poems at different public locations where a poem is integrated in the cityscape.
You can find Tom Lanoye in het Letterenhuis. Tom is the only citypoet whose work isn’t visible anymore in the cityscape. That’s why people strive towards a reissue of his poem ‘Open en Brood’ – ‘Open and Bread’. As a way to promote this Night of the City Poet, this poem was printed on breadsacs!
Ramsey Nasr his poem 'UtopiA' is integrated in the auditorium of the university at the Meerminne.
Bart Moeyaert will recite his poem 'Ons geheugen'- 'Our memory'at the Sint Felixpakhuis, where the cityarchives are lodged.
Joke van Leeuwen will read poems she wrote herself and work from other poets. She’ll do this in Het Paleis. On the 19th of November her new citypoem will be introduced on the Theaterplein. This poem is a complaint against child abuse.
Every participant will receive a book ‘De Stadsdichters’ (in Dutch) with the city poems and other information in it. In this book you can also consult a detachable map of the city, with an indication of where the poets recite their poems and at what time.
