Parallel to the general program 4 Dynamic Dialogue sessions are scheduled.
A Dynamic Dialogue is an interactive session around a pre-defined theme. During these parallel sessions we bring together experts in these fields. Objectives: (1) to exchange best practices from different regions and (2) to define possible future DC projects.
Dynamic dialogue 1 - Sustainable develoment of a region
Conference day 1 | 19th of November 11:30 -13:00; 15:00 -16:30
details
Sustainable development is the challenge from a global to a local scale. Over the last years, different initiatives have been developed on a regional scale. These are presented starting with the keynote from Alex Steffen on the numerous initiatives which show that a sustainable future is a growing reality. This is further demonstrated during the session by the networks and clusters created by regions. Strengths and lessons learned from these regional initiatives will be demonstrated and discussed. This will be supplemented with a debate on one of the main challenges for the future, how to upscale the present thematically focussed clusters and networks (environment charters, energy efficiency networks, cleantech clusters, …), towards global sustainable networks. A micro-level perspective on these initiatives will be offered from a global player (Nike) together with a view on its own activities.

Brussels, 31 March 2008 - “Europe needs to boost its capacity for creativity and innovation for both social and economic reasons. That is why the Commission has today adopted a proposal to declare 2009 the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. The decision will be taken later this year by the Council and the European Parliament. The modern world puts emphasis on better use of knowledge and rapid innovation. It therefore requires a broadening of the creative skills base involving the whole population. In particular, there is a need for skills and competences that enable people to embrace change as an opportunity and to be open to new ideas in a culturally diverse, knowledge-based society. Education and training are determining factors in this. In this dynamic dialog session experts from whole over the world will give an insight into how creativity and entrepreneurship is promoted into education in their region.

Dynamic dialogue 4 - Design as an engine for innovation.
Conference day 2 | 20th of November 11:30 -13:00; 15:00 -16:30
details
“Design is the engine that can transform a company into a powerhouse of nonstop innovation,” writes Neumeier of Business Week. “Until now, companies have used design as a beauty station for identities and communications, or as the last stop in a product launch. Never has it been used for its potential to create rule-bending innovation across the board. Meanwhile, the public is developing a healthy appetite for all things design.” In this session experts will give an insight into the potential use of design in a business environment, into how science and design can be combined in a creative way, and into sustainable design concepts.
